| Rs 2.89 Cr realized in fine from 1, 88,523 violators in 2013 | | | Sumit Sharma JAMMU, Jan 3: By issuing as many as 1,88,523 challans against traffic violators in 2013, the city traffic police have added a whopping Rs 2 crore 88 lakh 79 thousand 4 hundred and 57 to the state exchequer. Besides, Rs 13,73, 500 revenue has been raised by challaning 10196 vehicles for traffic violation in just last twenty days. 40 persons were challaned for the last ten days for using insignia on the wind shield of the private vehicles. These violators included Policemen, Scribes, Advocates and Army men. The crackdown was started keeping in view excess use of insignia which compromised the security. As per available data, the total challans issued last year, 1,64,118 were compoundable while 24,405 were challaned to courts, most of which include those for not wearing seat belts, helmets, using mobile phone while driving, , triple riding, wrong parking, disobeying traffic signals and misbehaving with traffic policemen, drunken driving, barging into no-entry zones and driving without licenses and RCs. SP Traffic Jammu, Pawan Parihar when contacted said that to curb the violation of traffic rules, instructions have been given to the subordinate staff to identify the grey areas and challan 600 to 700 violators per day. He further said that Scribes, Policemen, Advocates and Armymen used insignia on wind shield of their private vehicles and often misbehaved with the traffic police after violating traffic norms to evade the challan. Meanwhile, Traffic Police is organizing Road Safety Week from January 11 to 17 in Jammu. |
