| Now, CPI-M attacks Mehbooba for her remarks on Modi | | Idea Exchange Programme | | Rustam JAMMU, Jan 3: On January 1st, National Conference provincial president and former MoS Home Nasir Aslam Wani attacked the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and its leader Mehbooba Mufti for her January 1st remarks on BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. In her speech at the Idea Exchange Programme of the Indian Express in New Delhi, she had described Narendra Modi as a leader who can take "tough decisions" on the Kashmir issue and said that a section of people in Kashmir appreciate Modi and expect that he would do something positive vis-a-vis the "Kashmir issue". Indeed, there are sections of society in Kashmir who admire Modi knowing it fully well that he will not compromise the Indian position in Jammu & Kashmir and that he wants a debate on Article 370 so that it goes lock, stock and barrel. The same day, the NC provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani criticized Mehbooba Mufti and accused her of working in tandem with the BJP to dilute the so-called special status of Jammu & Kashmir. He even went to the extent of saying that one former Intelligence Bureau Director and a journalist and social activist had been working behind the scene to help the PDP come closer to the BJP and the vice-versa. Besides, he declared that the NC would not allow anyone to dilute the "special status" of the state and expose the PDP leadership. Yesterday, the state unit of the communal CPI-M, whose leadership masquerades as a democrat and demands roll back of all the central laws and institutions from the state, made common cause with the NC and criticized Mehbooba Mufti for her statement on Narendra Modi. (State secretary of the CPI-M Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami had for the first time won election from Kulgam Assembly constituency with the help of the NC.) The CPI-M expressed "surprise, disappointment and deep regret" over the comments made by Mehbooba Mufti. "The expectations of PDP president regarding a controversial person like Modi are highly disappointing and intriguing. The toughness, Mehbooba Mufti talks of, has been experienced by the people when it was delivered by Kalyan Singh, another leader of BJP in 1992 by demolishing the Babri Masjid and by Modi himself when horrible communal carnage was engineered in Gujarat in 2002. Modi is known for his consistent demand for abrogating Article 370 and special status to J&K. All well meaning and genuine secular forces must close their ranks in order to defeat the designs of this vicious communal platform," the state unit of the CPI-M, which is a marginal outfit having a few pockets of influence in Kulgam Assembly constituency, said while taking on Mehbooba Mufti and making common cause with the NC. It appears the Modi phobia has gripped the NC and the CPI-M like the Congress and other communal formations like the JDU, RJD, CPI and similar other outfits which survive and thrive on communal and divisive politics and pit one section against the other and create schism in the society in the name of fake democracy and fake secularism. Article 370 has to go one day or the other and the state is destined to become part of the national mainstream sooner than later. Hence, these fake secular outfits would do well to appreciate the writing on the wall and abandon their regressive ideology. |
