Srinagar, June 4 : Believe it or not: Even the death of a casual labourer in Anantnag district while performing snow clearance duties is termed as government's commitment towards public services by Chief Minister of the state.
No sooner the word about poor casual labourer's death came to fore, the Chief Minister without wasting an opportunity expressed condolence to the family and in the same breath described it as the highest sacrifice besides owning the casual labor as government functionary. CM even went on to brag the performance of his government by shamelessly parsing the casual labourer's commitment towards public service. In a condolence statement Chief minister, Omar Abdullah interestingly owned the deceased who was working in the department since seventeen years. the statement reads, " Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has expressed deep grief over the sad demise of functionary of Mechanical Engineering Department while rendering snow clearance operation in Chatergul area of Shangus constituency in South Kashmir, In his condolence message to the bereaved family, the Chief Minister expressed his solidarity with it, praised the commitment of the deceased government functionary towards the public service."
Interestingly, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah failed to recognize the hard working service of the deceased casual labor, Rafiq Ahmad when he was alive.
According to norms Rafiq after working with the department from last seventeen years must have been regularized. "From last seventeen years he worked with the department and was getting money after months together." Says his wife, Mubeena, adding the meager amount which he was getting from the department was spending on family.
Even co-workers as well as the officials of the department praised the deceased for his hardworking, but CM's condolence messages has ironed the thousands of casual labors working in different departments as they believe statement is adding salt to injury.
"it is the casual labor who works round the clock in every department of state, but the government is not recognizing our sacrifices. Isn't CM aware how many casual labors of PDD department died in the past," Said ironed Imtiyaz Ahmad, who is himself a casual labor in PDD department since last over 14 years.
He said that if Chief Minister is really worried the he should own live casual labors not dead.
CM's so-called condolence message couldn't console the family of a deceased casual labor, who was their sole bread earner consisting of wife and five little children. The deceased had been working as a casual labor since last seventeen years and was drawing meager wages of rupees from the state exchequer.
