JAMMU, Jan 3: In what can be seen as 2014 Assembly contest going to get tougher and nail biting for stalwarts, small celebrations of the nature of New Year functions have turned the latter unnerved and restless , much to the extent of competing with rivals for props like hoardings and banners decorated to convey greetings to people. No concocted tale but a fresh development seen in Ramnagar constituency where the New year celebrations virtually turned into political shows of one up manship between Congress and Panthers Party leaders.
Sources said that the Congress had organised a simple function in connection with New Year celebrations for its supporters in a temple in Ramnagar. The party leaders had put up hoardings and boards around the venue and at some key points across the town with greetings and wishes inscribed on them. It turned out to be a successful function terms of strength of the supporters who gathered there, sources said. However, not to lag behind, the sitting MLA also jumped into the scene within hours and in a maddening race apparently to outwit the rival party, also arranged boardings and banners, albeit huge and grand, almost kingsize, said the sources. The Panthers Party also took care of the fact that no main crossing or prime place was left untouched in terms of occupying the spaces at as many vital links, sources added.
The new year celebrations virtually turned political shows of strength with the competitors in race to outwit each other in every respect, in managing the crowd of supporters too, sources said adding that the sitting MLA even organised such functions at his Jammu residence for two consecutive days. While on January 2 people and supporters gathered from Majalta block 'enjoyed' the new year celebrations and today it were mostly the supporters from Ramnagar who converged at his residence , thanks to political competitive spirit of the leaders who organised the functions, wherein it was apparently politics camouflaged in the new year celebrations. Observers have it say these developments are only the first knocks of what is going to be seen during the real battle in 2014. It has dawned upon the sitting MLA that it is not going to be cakewalk contest this time. The realization is also there on the political waters that dice is not loaded completely in his favour as the rivals too are gearing up fast to give tough and nail biting competition in the Assembly elections. Pertinently, while the Congress' official candidate had managed a little over 1000 votes in 2008 polls, the rebel candidate who had contested as independent candidate had bagged more than 10,000 votes, no matter the victory was registered by the Panthers Party on Ramnagar constituency.
