SRINAGAR, Jan 3: Casual artists, announcers and others are making a merry at Radio Kashmir, Srinagar as they are eating into the benefits of the regular artists and other professionals who were engaged by the station for the various programmes being aired from it.
Sources told Early Times that over the past eight months the artists and other professionals have not received any payment with the same getting pocketed into the coffers of casual artists. This has led to a situation where it is getting difficult for the artists and other professionals to carry out daily chores of life.
"Radio Kashmir, Srinagar has been going through worst kind of financial crisis and there seems to be no end to it. The artists and other professionals are at the receiving end as they have not received any payment since May 2013. The 2013 has passed now and we are in 2014 but still then there is no relief for the artists and professionals," said sources.
The sources said that authorities cite the paucity of funds as the reason responsible for same adding that truth is somewhat different. They said the funds meant as payment for artists and other professionals are provided to the casual artists, announcers and others appointed on temporary basis at the Radio Station.
"Funds meant for making programmes and as payment to the people instrumental in making the programmes are provided to the casual hands. Most of the casuals are under qualified but still then they are ruling the roost with the qualified and experienced hands having to suffer. There is total mess at the Radio Station and nobody ready to set the wrongs right," said sources.
Sources said that some of the night attendants have been made programme assistants with the qualification and merit being set aside. They said two sisters of a little known politician have been given extended bookings at Radio Kashmir, Srinagar and that too at the cost of senior people who have put in more than 20 years of their life while serving this institution of public broadcasting.
"Radio Kashmir, Srinagar could have easily come up as perfect platform for young media professionals but that is not to be. The Station is dotted by the casuals and it is very difficult to dislodge them since the higher ups are in league with them. This speaks of highly unprofessional approach thus acting for young media professionals who want to make a mark in the field of radio broadcasting," said sources.
Sources said that news readers at Radio Kashmir, Srinagar during the news bulletins commit mistakes like anything and there is nobody who would take them to task. They said accountability is missing at the Station and it is due to this reason that things have gone from bad to worse at Radio Kashmir, Srinagar.
