| UN resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir irrelevant | | Geelani beating about the bush | | Neha JAMMU, Jan 3: Frustrated pro-Pakistan Kashmiri separatist and self-styled chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G), Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani, has lost his balance of mind. It appears. He doesn't know what he says and what he says only proves that he has completely lost his way or he is making desperate attempts at misleading the gullible Kashmiri Muslims belong to a one particular religious sect. On Thursday, he said the United Nations (UN) resolutions on Jammu & Kashmir are quite relevant and provide a just, democratic, practicable and viable solution to the so-called Kashmir issue. "If these resolutions are irrelevant, then the credibility of UN is at stake because it (irrelevance of its resolutions) puts a question mark on its very existence…India raised the Kashmir issue at United Nations Organization and on January 5, 1949, the world body introduced a resolution, supporting the right to self- determination for the people of Jammu & Kashmir. Both India and Pakistan are signatories to the document…The Kashmir issue cannot be resolved through series of secret or open negotiations like Tashqand, Shimla or Indira-Abdullah agreements until the UN resolutions are implemented…New Delhi (should) shun its stubborn and obstinate attitude and…Pakistan (should) focus on core issue. Four-point formula or any out-of-box solution was deviation from Pakistan's traditional stand and it can prove detrimental for Kashmir cause. We won't accept any solution contrary to our sacrifices and aspirations. Despite all odds we will pursue struggle for self determination," he, inter-alia, said in a press statement. Even a naive would laugh at Geelani and his insistence on something that is absolutely untenable. The UN resolutions on Jammu & Kashmir just cannot be implemented. Why because Pakistan failed to act on them by not vacating the aggression in Jammu & Kashmir, by merging the Gilgit-Baltistan region with Pakistan and by ceding a portion of Jammu & Kashmir territories in the Aksai Chin area to China. The UN resolutions had clearly said that Pakistan must vacate the aggression, that Indian forces would maintain law and order in the areas to be vacated by Pakistan and that the plebiscite would be organized in the entire State of Jammu & Kashmir as it existed on August 15, 1947 and not region-wise or district-wise. But more than that, the UN resolutions had recognized the Indian sovereignty over the entire State of Jammu & Kashmir, including the areas Pakistan occupied illegally after loot, plunder and rape in 1947. That the UN resolutions recognized the Indian sovereignty over the areas Pakistan occupied illegally from the fact that these resolutions asked India to send its troops to the POJK and Gilgit-Baltistan to maintain law and order there. But Geelani and others of his ilk have nothing to do with what the UN resolutions said. They have simply been misleading the people of Kashmir by talking non-sense. It is for the people of Kashmir to call the Geelani bluff and discard him and similar other Kashmiri leaders, including those belonging to the NC, CPI-M and similar other Kashmir-based organizations, which have been misrepresenting the facts to promote their seditious and communal agendas. Even otherwise, they have no other option but to reject them as the nation is committed to preserving the country's unity, integrity and sovereignty at any cost. |
