| LMD team books traders, Autorickshaws for violations in Katra town | | Charges Rs14600 fine from violators | | Jammu, Jan 3: A Joint team of Legal Metrology department today booked three traders and 15 Autorickshaws during a surprise checking in Katra Town.
Led by Amar Singh, Joint Controller, Legal Metrology, Jammu along with Dy. Controller Legal Metrology, S.S. Lab/Taximeter, Jammu, M.A Mughal and Assistant Controller Reasi Kuldeep Raj, conducted checking of Auto-Rickshaws and other establishments with the assistance of local Police.
During the course of Inspection, 15 Autorickshaw drivers were booked under various provisions of J&K Weights and Measures Enforcement Act. 1997for charging flat rate from the commuters and using of un-reverified fare meters. The cases were compounded on spot and an amount of Rs 81,00 was realized from the defaulters. The Inspection team also booked 3 traders at Baba Dhansar Katra for using un-reverified Electronic Weighing machines for charging Rs 20 against marked price of Rs 18 for water bottles. All the three challan cases were compounded on spot and amount of Rs 65,00 was recovered from the violators.
The department has again appealed to the business community and auto rickshaw drivers to use re-verified auto fare meters and weighing instruments and avoid to indulge in over charging on packed goods.
