| Should NC, Congress part ways? | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 8: Is it time for split in coalition Government as both the partners have different stance on major issues pertaining to the people of the state. The National Conference throughout these years has opposed the implementation of 73rd and 74th amendments in the state which is aimed at giving the governance to grass root level. On the other hand, NC had been pressing for revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) which was opposed by Congress party. There was no common minimum programme between the two coalition partners who completed five years in office. As the elections are coming near, both the parties are trying to play their cards while raising the issues which will help them in upcoming days. Such is the situation that the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah hasn't been able to act against his erring Ministers who are involved in corruption cases. Rather he has been sitting with them in Cabinet meetings and at other platforms and making new policies. He has been blaming coalition compulsions for his inaction. But while taking action against the corrupt Ministers of Congress party but he didn't take action against Ministers from his own party. Now, after Congress opened its mouth on constituting new councils for six regions of the State, NC got shocked and tried to attack behind curtains on new administrative units. For past five years, both these coalition partners couldn't reach to a conclusion on any major issue and had to leave the meetings mid way many at times. Many leaders of both these parties have consciously attacking each other on several occasions and it looked like that government could fall any time soon. Thus at present both these parties should make a clear decision whether they have to remain united or split. |
