JAMMU, Jan 8: Amid reports of increasing differences between two coalition partners, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Saif Ud Din Soz today held one to one meetings with Congress Ministers to formulate new strategy to implement party's agenda in the government. He made it clear that in the elections year Congress has to take tough stand on its issue in the government.
On his unscheduled visit Soz reached Jammu this morning and interacted with number of party workers including ministers, senior leaders and grass root level workers.
Soz's unscheduled visit to Jammu has fuelled rumours that Congress is going to take tough stand on the issue of extending 73rd amendment of Indian Constitution to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Pradesh Congress is facing embarrassment on this issue because despite repeated warnings given by the party its coalition partner National Conference is not taking these warnings seriously.
Last week activists of Youth Congress had staged demonstration against State Government for adopting delay tactics on 73rd amendment but the government has not taken any serious note of the Youth Congress protest.
A senior Congress leader, who does not want to be quoted, said that Soz while interacting with party ministers and leaders have made it clear that the year 2014 is very crucial for the party in Jammu and Kashmir so Congress has to take tough stand on the issues which are incorporated in the 2008 election manifesto of the party.
"During meeting with party ministers Soz gave them clear directions that they should strongly take up party's agenda in the government so that party would face people in the coming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections", the Congress leader said and added that party leaders and workers have once again opposed any alliance with the government.
Soz reportedly told Congress ministers that in the next meeting decision on 73rd amendment should be taken any cost because time is running out and code of conduct for Lok Sabha elections would be announced very soon.
