| PDP ask government to provide relief in snow bound areas | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 23: Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Coordinator for Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary constituency, Abdul Hamid Choudhary has asked government to not to make any excuses, stop lip service and act swiftly to give people some succor in snow bound areas that have been completely cut off from rest of the country. According to press release, he said that in many areas structures have collapsed, water and electricity supply snapped, road connectivity badly damaged and civil supplies affected. People, he said cannot wait for the snowfall to stop but immediate help should be despatched to these areas at once. Since heavy snowfall has forced closure of 300 km long Srinagar-Jammu national highway and many people are stranded on it as well on both capital cities adequate arrangements should be made for their comfortable stay. He regretted that just few feet of snow or millimetre of rain collapses entire administrative machinery as well as communication system. This, Choudhary Hamid, said was regrettable and needs to be checked. "This is nothing but a laid back attitude of government which has failed to have a fair assessment of weather conditions and act accordingly. Ideally the government should have made elaborate arrangements to the extent that supplies and essentials could not have hampered", he said. Special officers should be deployed at both Jammu as well as Srinagar bus stands besides other areas to help stranded passengers. The government he alleged was shying away from its duties and those sitting at the helm of affairs were comforting themselves in their homes and officers without actually caring for people on the roads and in snow and rain lashed villages. |
