| Stranded passengers rue Govt apathy, administrative indifference | | Highway closed for second day | | Bivek Mathur Jammu, Jan 23 : Those stranded in Jammu and enroute the 300 kilometers long national highway following its closure after heavy snowfall and incessant rains during last two days have rued apathetical attitude of the government and the administration in reaching out to them while in distress. While hundreds of them are forced to stay inside their vehicles on the road, those stranded in Jammu are staying under the roof of General Bus Stand Jammu in harsh weather conditions. Mohammad Khadim, a resident of Anantnag who is staying here in Bus Stand Jammu said that the condition of Jammu Bus stand was so bad the previous night that people were cramming over one another like animals to pass the chilly night but there was no arrangement in place by the district administration to commute the problems of the stranded passengers. Another passenger of same town, Gulam Hassan shared his experience with Early Times saying, "Government's indifference towards the stranded passengers could be gauged from the fact that neither Police nor district administration was cooperating with the public. Even no arrangement was made to separate the crowd on the station so as to avail space for them to rest". A businessman from Baramullah G M Rather who had come to Jammu few days back said, "I was feeling hapless as the vehicular movement to the valley was terminated and there was no arrangement to intimate the public about the scenario of movement of vehicles which exploded the myth of Jammu and Kashmir government about the preparedness of SDMA and Traffic Police to ease out the problems of public. "I could not describe the dreadful night I had passed yesterday due to administrative apathy towards the residents of the state and would like to pray to almighty not to repeat the same in future", replied Nasrine, a student from Srinagar. |
