| BOPEE Scam: Crime Branch opposes bail to Peer, broker | | | Et Report Srinagar, Jan 23 : Crime Branch of Police, investigating the multi-million Common Entrance Test scam, Thursday opposed fresh bail applications by former chairman of J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examination BOPEE) Mushtaq Ahmad Peer and one of the brokers in the scandal, Sajjad Ahmad Bhat.As the cases came up before the Special Judge Anti-Corruption Kashmir, Mohan Lal Manhas, Crime Branch filed the objections to bail applications. In its objection to the bail plea of Mushtaq Ahmad Peer, the Crime Branch said that he is involved in a heinous offence which is non-bailable in nature as such cannot claim bail as a matter of right. "In case the accused is granted the bail, there it every likelihood of tempering of prosecution evidence and the accused will try to win over the prosecution witnesses," the Crime Branch said. It said that its investigation has established that he has committed a grave and serious offence which led to the selection of undeserving candidates for undergoing the MBBS course. While the Crime Branch opposed his bail plea, arguments could not be taken up in the application today. Peer, who was arrested on November 23 for alleged selling of CET papers in 2012, has been chargeshteed along with 24 other persons in case FIR 24/2013 Under Section 420, 120B RPC, 5(2)d r/w (5(2) PC Act of Police Station Crime Branch. Earlier, the Crime Branch also opposed the bail to Sajad Ahmad Bhat, maintaining that he has not raised any fresh grounds to his previous bail application which was rejected by the court on December 23. The court also extended the judicial custody of nine parents, who are lodged in Central Jail Srinagar. The parents include Bilal Ahmad Vaid of New Colony Bijbhera, Bashir Ahmad Dar of Chinigund Bijbhera, Mohammad Shafi Bandh of Awantipora, Mohammad Iqbal Reshi of Nai Basti Anantnag, Gulam Mohi-ud-din Lone of Semthan Bijbhera and Mohammad Yousuf Dar. |
