| Cabinet meeting: Congress Ministers to go offensive to counter NC's game-plan | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 23: Congress leadership has reportedly directed its Ministers to take tough stand on the issue of extending 73rd amendment of the Indian Constitution in J&K in the Cabinet meeting to be held on Friday. Congress leadership has also asked its Ministers not to succumb before National Conference Ministers on the issue of forming new administrative units. Sources said that recently a meeting of Congress leaders of both the warring factions was held at New Delhi in which it was decided to aggressively pursue party's agenda in the election year. In the meeting party leaders cautioned that Congress would be wiped out from political scene of the State if party failed to take stand on issues like 73rd amendment and equal distribution of new administrative units. In the last Cabinet meeting which was held on December 31, not only National Conference Ministers even Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had taken tough stand on the issue of creating new administrative units. As per unconfirmed reports, Chief Minister had even threatened to resign on the issue of creating new administrative units. "It was all due to the aggressive posture shown by the Chief Minister and party Ministers in the last Cabinet meeting that Congress has decided to go all offensive against its coalition partner for adopting delay tactics on the issue of 73rd amendment", sources said and revealed that Congress high command has also given green signal to the state leadership to take offensive line on the those issues which were dearer to the party. Fearing backlash in the coming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections for meekly surrendered before National Conference, Congress leadership is of the opinion that election year is the best opportunity to take on NC. Sources in the Congress said that in Friday's Cabinet meeting party Ministers would take tough stand on many issues. |
