| Why is Omar shying away from his responsibilities? | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 23: Why is the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah shying away from his responsibilities when it comes to meet people of Jammu region and listen to their grievances? This is the biggest question which people of this region have been and are asking since Omar Abdullah took over the reign of the state on January 5, 2009. The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister has two advisors, Qamar Ali Kahoon and Tanvir Sadiq, who have the job to sit in summer capital Srinagar to attend the people who face any kind of problem. Whenever snow or any kind of weather disturbs the life in Valley, the Chief Minister himself moves there to reach out to people. He is hardly seen in Jammu and even if he turns up in his office in guarded secretariat, no common man is allowed inside the area where Omar sits in the office. Only those people can enter who have contacts inside or having political affiliation with National Conference (NC). For Jammu, the Chief Minister is never available, neither in office nor at residence. It has become his routine affair to move out of office, when people start pouring in the secretariat. At almost every weekend, Omar Abdullah moves to Srinagar or New Delhi and doesn't stay in Jammu. During summers, he opens his residential office for local people but in Jammu he never started this trend. On the other hand, he as a NC working president asked his Ministers to be available for people in Jammu but in Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, which is the provincial headquarters of the party and only those people can enter there who have affiliation with the party. A person who is not a NC worker and doesn't want to enter the office can't meet these Ministers who have adopted a lopsided approach to meet the people. They have made it a political affair and address people who gather there for redressal of their grievances. The NC must shun this one sided approach, particularly the Chief Minister, who has to be impartial and available for everybody. |
