Early Times Report
RAJOURI, Jan 23: More than 50 student of Government Girls Higher Secondary School have leveled allegation of mishandling by the policemen at the gate of District Police Lines (DPL) where the girls were holding protest to resent the elimination of their cultural item from Republic Day celebrations.
On the final day of rehearsal the selection committee , comprising Deputy Commissioner, district SP, district Youth and Sports officer, CEO, additional DC etc, had rejected the cultural items of about 5 schools arguing that the items were not prepared as per the directions issued by the deputy commissioner about a month ago in a meeting of the district officers.
These girls alleged that the attitude of the selection committee was biased and they have selected the cultural items of such schools which were not up to the mark for the reasons best known to the selection committee members.
District officials by rejecting our cultural item have not only wasted our lot of money which we had spent on the dresses but also wasted our valuable time of about one month which was crucial for or forth coming final examination.
Most of these girls are the students of 12th and 11th classes and were very disappointed.
"Though we are very upset over the rejection of our cultural item but what hurt us more was the mishandling by the policemen who slapped some girls in full public view" said some of the girls".
Later they met with their principal and in a written complaint, demanded action against the erring policemen.
"Yes, the girls have brought the matter into the notice of school authorities and have presented their complaint in writing. On Friday some staff members along with their complaint will meet the district SP for action against the policemen involved in the incident" said Mahesh Khajuria , Principal.
Additional deputy commissioner Saleem Malik said that the schools authorities were categorically informed about the cultural items to be prepared on national integration or on patriotic songs.
"The rejected cultural items were not prepared according to repeated directions " said ADC, Saleem Malik.
Those schools whose cultural items were rejected by the selection committee on final day of rehearsal today have reportedly decided to withdraw their participation in the march past during Republic day celebrations.
"Suitable action will be taken against such schools who withdraw their participation in the march past" said ADC, Saleem Malik.
