| Security agencies support AFSPA | | Say Govt can takes any decision after Parliament, assembly polls | | Jammu, Feb 5 : Senior functionaries of various security agencies, including Army, have supported the union Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah's warning against lowering guard in Jammu and Kashmir following withdrawal of US led NATO forces from Afghanistan. Senior police and CRPF officers, posted in Jammu and Kashmir, agreed with the fears expressed by Farooq Abdullah over possible increase in the incidents of subversive violence in the state as Afghanistan besides some border belts in Pakistan may witness fresh spurt in the activities of terrorists. Farooq Abdullah has said that the Government and the security forces have to be extremely cautious after the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan. He has ruled out any scope for lowering the guard because terrorist outfits may try to destabilize peace in India, including Jammu and Kashmir State. He has voiced fears about the upsurge in the activities of Taliban and the Al Qaeda and to counter their evil plans the security grid in Jammu and Kashmir and in rest of India has to be upgraded. Even while agreeing with Farooq's Abdullah's views on the security scenario that may develop after the withdrawal of the US troops senior Army functionaries have not stomached union Minister's views on the need for revoking AFSPA. These Army officers said that there can be nothing like partial withdrawal of the AFSPA. They added that if AFSPA was withdrawn from those areas which have been sanitized against militants could witness fresh violence. Senior functionaries of the paramilitary forces said that if Farooq Abdullah wants the security grid to be strengthened AFSPA has not to be either diluted or repealed. They said that there should be no tampering with AFSPA when the security scenario may witness fresh challenges during the ensuing Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. They said the issue of withdrawal of AFSPA could be taken up for discussion only after the end of the Lok Sabha and the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. |
