| AJKPC resents Omar's nod to 73rd amendment | | `Made in Delhi laws will prove disastrous' | | Javaid Naikoo SRINAGAR, Feb 5: Calling the approval of Chief Minister to the much controversial 73rd amendment destructive for the vibrancy of Jammu and Kashmir constitution, All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) while rejecting claims of the Chief Minister regarding access of powers to village heads today said that such a decision would prove nail in the head for the people of the State in the long run. Reviewing the decisions taken in the recent Cabinet meeting in which Omar Abdullah gave his nod to the long awaited and controversial 73rd amendment in Jammu and Kashmir constitution, AJKPC members in a meeting in Srinagar today expressed their anguish over the approval of Chief Minister to add "made in Delhi" laws in the Jammu and Kashmir constitution. They said the laws made in Delhi are no way applicable for the Jammu and Kashmir constitution and steps taken by the State Government to include 73rd amendment in the State constitution can never be beneficial for Panchayat system of the State. According to the chief spokesperson of AJKPC, Syed Ghulam Naqashbandi, 'including 73rd amendment in Jammu and Kashmir constitution would itself mean fragmentation of article 370 of the state and such a decision, according to him can prove disastrous for the people of the State in the long run. "Once article 370 which gives the Jammu and Kashmir a special status among all other States of India is eroded it would be a free license for outsiders to come and destruct the best possible status of Jammu and Kashmir in many ways and would automatically prove a nail in the head for the people of the State for generations to come," he said. He said that instead of show off for Delhi people and borrowing laws from Delhi, State Government which has so far failed at all fronts must fulfil the promises made with village heads from time to time. "Instead of closed door tall claims of the Chief Minister which include access of powers to village heads, Omar Abdullah must come on the ground and see how village heads who are like toothless tigers are treated by those who voted for them," he lamented. Without naming anybody, the party general secretary Sofi Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din said some people who support 73rd amendment and with a lobby of few members are trying to be the representatives of village heads of Jammu and Kashmir and call themselves as members of AJKPC must first learn the pros and cons of implementing 73rd amendment in the State constitution and then work for its advocacy. "Though the Chief Minister did a marvelous job by sanctioning administrative units for far flung areas in the said Cabinet meeting, however nod to 73rd amendment is in no way beneficial for the people of the state in general and for the village heads in particular," said Sofi. AJKPC members while calling it a Congress centric decision said that few Congress members cannot amend the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir as per their will and taste and demanded that before going for import of laws from Delhi, State Government should discuss all pros and cons associated with it with legal experts of the state. |
