| Row over administrative units reaches Civil Secretariat | | | Bashir Assad JAMMU, Feb 5: The row over new administrative units reached Civil Secretariat today with hundreds of people from across the state pleading their cases before the public representatives particularly the Ministers in the coalition Government. Since early morning today, long queues were seen at the main entrance of the Civil Secretariat. The aggrieved people wanted to submit memoranda to their representatives and Ministers. Scores of people were seen in the premises of the Secretariat interacting with their representatives to make their points and then marching towards the offices of various Ministers seeking assurance for grant of new administrative units. People from the neglected areas flooded the Civil Secretariat today and many delegations were seen encircling their representatives (MLAs and MLCs) in the Secretariat lawns to press for their demands. "We came all along from Wachi constituency to seek justice as many of our deserving and Centrally located places were deprived of the administrative facilities in the recent announcement on the subject," said a delegate. The delegation comprising of around hundreds odd people from Wachi constituency had surrounded the MLC Showkat Ahmad in the Civil Secretariat lawns complaining of discrimination. Since last Cabinet meet that decided to create 659 administrative units, we have been agitating against the discrimination meted to Wachi but the circumstances forced us to come all along to Jammu to seek justice, said another angry delegate. He said since that day the people of the area have been agitating in Srinagar's Press Enclave and yesterday we decided to visit Jammu to apprise the political establishment about the fall out of the decision of discriminating Wachi. "Turke Wangam is a big village in Wachi constituency and is at central point between Shopian district headquarter and the last village of the district, Aglar. But unfortunately it has not been given tehsil status," a protestor said. The protestors alleged that on the opposite side of their village, four villages were upgraded to Tehsil status. The villages fall at a distance of two kilometers each, they claimed. "It is due to NC MLC, Showkat Gania's approach that Chitragam was upgraded to Tehsil status," they said. "Likewise, Nazir Ahmad Shah of Congress made it for Imam Sahib and Harman," they added. Yet another delegation from Bhalesa Bhaderwah was also seen registering their protest against not granting new administrative units to their areas in the Civil Secretariat. People alleged that 'justice has not been done to them. Hundreds of people from Kupwara district flooded the office of the Law and Parliamentary Minister, Mir Saifullah today demanding creation of administrative units in their respective areas. The office chamber of the Minister and his personal section was so over-crowded that it was difficult to enter or leave the chamber. The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway is closed, let it open for the vehicular traffic, you will see thousands of people reaching Jammu on daily basis for redressal of their grievances viz-a-viz administrative units, a resident of Kupwara district told Early Times while coming out of the office of Mir Saifullah. |
