SRINAGAR, May 20: Organised under the aegis of Mountaineering Association of J&K by Glacier Trekking and Mountaineering Club, district Anantnag, Srinagar and Budgam championships concluded at TRC Sport Climbing Wall, Nowgam, here. In the 1st Anantnag district competition, about 90 climbers, including 26 girls, drawn from various institutions participated in three categories of sub junior boys and girls and junior boys. The competition held on 'Top rope' under the overall supervision of Khurshid Ahmad, vice president of Mountaineering Association of J&K. Earlier the competition inaugurated by Director Tourism, Kashmir, Talat Parveez in the presence of guests of honor, Tariq Ahmad, Deputy Director Tourism, Shafiq Ahmad Chak, Regional Director, Settlement, Central Kashmir and Deputy Commissioner, Commercial Taxes Vigilance, Mahmood Ahmad Shah. Whereas Ishfaq Ahmad Vaid and Waseem Bari Agoo were the judges, Aejaz Ahmad Ahangar was route setter of the competition. In the end, Khurshid Ahmad, vice president of the Association presented medals to the winners. Meanwhile, in the Srinagar and Budgam district competitions around 80 climbers contested for the top honours. State U-14 Basketball Tourney of DYSS Jammu faces Udhampur in U-14 girls final

JAMMU, May 20: Jammu girls shall take on their counterparts from district Udhampur in the final of the under-14 category in the three-day inter-district state basketball competition, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at MA Stadium, here. Earlier, in the semifinals, played today, Jammu defeated Srinagar district 12-02 making it a one-sided contest while Udhampur trounced district Samba 13-05. Now, the hardliner for the third position shall be played tomorrow, followed by the final on May 22 at the same venue. In all, five districts had confirmed their entries for the participation, but only four teams reported the venue this morning. Meanwhile, in under-14 boys' category, semifinals line-up has been drawn with the entry of host Jammu district, Srinagar, Baramulla and Samba in the last four stages. Earlier, out of nine confirmed entries only seven districts reported the organizers with the result straightway quarterfinals were played today. While Srinagar defeated district Udhampur 12-02, Jammu boys blanked Kupwara 34-00. Baramulla won their match against district Reasi 18-00. District Samba got walkover to qualify for the semifinals. Now, in the semifinals, to be played tomorrow, Samba shall take on district Srinagar while Jammu shall meet Baramulla. Earlier, the state meet was declared open by Assistant Director, DYSS, Jammu, Rupinderjeet Kour, who interacted with the participating teams and encouraged the participants. St Peters bags U-17 boys' basketball title The St. Peters High School BC Road clinched the inter-school district level under-17 boys' basketball title, the competition for which held recently. In the final, St. Peters outplayed MHAC Nagbani 24-19 in a well contested game. Inter-school gymnastics starts today The inter-school district level gymnastics competition in under-14 and under-17 boys and girls sections shall take place at Gymnasium Hall of BSF Stadium, here tomorrow. The competition is organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports district Jammu.
Aquib Ahad wins Islamiya College cycle race

SRINAGAR, May 20: Physical Education Department of Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Srinagar, organized the Annual Cycle Race for the college male students today. The race was flagged off by the College Principal Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Aslam Baba from Nehru Park, Dalgate, Srinagar. The college cyclists cycled via, Oberoi Crossing, Hotel Centaur, Cheshmashahi/ Botanical Garden Crossing, Nishat Crossing, Fore Shore Road -- Duck Park, Zakura Crossing, up to Naseem- Bagh Park, Hazratbal, Srinagar. The cycle race culminated at Naseem-Bagh Park after covering a distance of 13.7 kilometers. 67 cyclists of the college took part with great zeal. Aquib Ahad of B.Com 3rd year bagged the first place for the second consecutive year by covering the distance in 23:59:08 minutes while Noor-ul-Arsalan of B. Com 3rd year & Ansur Farooq Khan of B. Com 3rd year claimed the second and third place with timings of 25:02:96 minutes and 25:28:47 minutes respectively.
Class 10 JK Board exam result International School students bring laurels, secure 3 positions

RAJOURI, May 20: Rajouri based International School in continuation of its delivery of quality education has once again proved its merit by bagging 3 positions in recent class 10 JK Board examination. Nahida Chowdhary scored 489 marks and secured the prestigious 4th Rank in the Jammu Province while Asiya Ferdous scored 487 marks and bagged 6th position in the state. 19th position in the State board examination was secured by Anmol Rattan by fetching 474 marks. Jammu, May 20: In a bid to give exposure to the radio broadcasting industry, the 92.7 Big FM today organised a tour of their premises for the Students of Tiny Tots Hr Sec School. According to spokesperson, a group of 25 students visited the Broadcasting Station and interacted with acknowledged RJs (Radio Jockeys) including Manas , Sarang and Juhi. "The RJs organised various fun filled activities for the students in which the students participated enthusiastically, it added. "During the occasion, the Station Head Syed Mujtaba Ali Jaffery while interacting with students replied various queries of the students regarding the functioning of 92.7 Big FM, the statement said. Students namely who participated in fun games included Mahapara , Amreena , Sadia , Kamla, Krishna Zutshi, Suneha Manhas, Urfana, Sugandh, Ishita, Ghanshyam, Raashid, Ifra Anjum, Taniya , Iram, Vanshika Salaria, Jasmeet, Ritik, Vanshika Verma, Mradima and Midhat. |
