Early Times Report

Jammu, May 20: The Congress has mocked at the statement of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah hinting at snapping ties with the Congress ahead of the assembly elections. Party leaders said Omar has come as a turn coat in true spirit of the NC which had always used allies just to remain in power.
Omar Abdullah in an interview to NDTV , with which he shares personal and cordial relation, had said he can't say if the alliance will continue.
"There are many voices in the party which are against the continuation of an alliance," he said.
It was virtually a u-turn by Omar Abdullah. The CM had in November said that his future, read NC, rests with the Congress led UPA. He had also said repeatedly that he read NC is not like fare weather friends with Congress but has family ties which go to Sheikh-Indira relations.
He said it even while sharing dias with the Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, where he had heavily criticized Narendra Modi, apparently to bring him more close to the Congress.
"We always doubted the intentions of the NC. It was communicated to party high command also. Omar's intention was only to have seat of the Chief Minister for full six-year. He had achieved and tasted power. Now like his predecessor," said a senior Congress leader.
Party leaders said Congress was not interested in the alliance at the first instance and when it was pressurized it had asked for rotation of the CM's chair like in PDP alliance but Omar was interested in being CM for full six term and that was his only motive.
"It s in the DNA of NC to dump allies. Sheikh Abdullah was given chair on platter by the Congress when he was facing political oblivion. But its leadership had also termed Congress as party of gutter. The same NC had even slept at the lap of the BJP and now when it sees change in the guard its showing it chameleon colour again," said a senior Congress leader.
