Early Times Report

Jammu, May 20: At a time when National Conference appears to be serious in taking stock of mistakes and blunders that led to disastrous defeat on all the three seats of Lok Sabha in Kashmir Valley, state unit of Congress is in a state of slumber with most of the leaders still confined to their own constituencies and not in a mood to accept the fact the party stands shattered and completely decimated on all the three seats it contested. Barring a brief statement terming results as 'unfortunate' by the Pradesh Congress President Prof Saif-u-Din Soz, no response nor any meeting has been called or convened at any level to take stock of performance segment wise by the Congress.
Sources said while a couple of ministers have left for Srinagar to resume their normal duties in the Secretariat, some are still camping here, albeit not for any specific party related task. There is no coordination between most of the ministers either in Jammu or Kashmir and almost all of them maintain distance from each other, sources said adding that there has been no attempt at any quarter to sit together informally to discuss the post result scenario across the state where political equations have suddenly changed much to discomfort of the party. Sources said the Congress leaders are not even initiating 'normal business' in tandem with NC counterparts in the corridors of Civil Secretariat in the wake of blame game politics that has pushed the allies apart further.
However, what is making all in the political circles wonder is the fact that Congress is not initiating any move which would suggest the party has also begun introspection at its own level for the loss of three Parliamentary seats. Most of the leaders, it is obvious from their conduct and conversation, sources say where prepared for this loss and are not regretting it at all, not even shocked at the defeat of stalwart Ghulam Nabi Azad. Barring just one leader who is repeatedly trying to show how much of votes Azad garnered from a couple of segments in Doda, Kishtwar, no one is interested in assessing the huge loss and what this means for future prospects to party when it faces Assembly elections in the state.
Sources further said all that Congress is attributing the defeat is to now acknowledged Modi wave for the seats party contested elections. They take solace from the fact and even say it with a little sense of regret that when this wave could not spare the party across the entire nation, how could J&K remain unaffected. This is introspection, Congress style.
