Of GMC's outdated labs, non-functional lifts
Doctors, Para medical staff rude on attendants, patients

Jammu, May 20: Within the tall claims of better healthcare by the Omar Abdullah led coalition government, the non functional lift and delay in distribution of reports of clinical cum diagnostic facilities at premier health care institute of Jammu region , Government Medical College subjects patients and their attendants to inconvenience.
While talking to Early Times several patients and their attendants complained about delay in providing the medical services to the patients particularly in terms of conducting clinical and diagnostic test within the time. The people complain that lower staff, particularly the staff posted at various pathological labs of the hospital and para medical staff. The attendants of the patient informed that it took more than 24 hours for them to receive the blood test report which otherwise could be delivered within one or two hours to the needy people. The people alleged that there is a nexus between the private laboratories owner and the hospital staff. They said that the blood diagnostic machine in "Emergency ward" of the hospital often developed faults and today the machine also develop the same fault as a result of which many patients suffered and undergone through trauma. The people also complained about rude behaviour of the staff members of the hospital and termed it as unfortunate.
"People visiting the hospitals are mostly under stress and always undergone through trauma and tension due suffering of their dear ones-so doctors and medical staff must behave humbly with the patients and their attendants" said Ranji Devi an attendant. She said that due to non functional of lifts in the hospital, the people and the patients shifted to top floors of the hospital faced lot of inconvenience, particularly while going to deliver samples for test or for the collection of reports. Another attendant said that his father was admitted in the hospital since last couple of weeks and added that whole family has undergone through trauma and mental tension. He said that there is need to re-plan and revisit the hospital strategy so that people could not suffer on account of health delivery system. He said that there is immediate need to upgrade the outdated laboratories and also immediate repair of the faulty lifts.
