Jammu, May 20: At least 21 people were killed, while 70 others sustained injuries in different accidents across Jammu region. Most gruesome accident took place at Digdol in Ramban where 17 persons including 6 women died and 34 were injured when a passenger bus bearing registration No: JK02AJ-3547 in which they were travelling skidded off the road and fell into 400 feet deep gorge on Srinagar-Jammu Highway at around last midnight.
As per details the bus was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar when the driver lost control over it plunging it into a deep gorge. The ill fated bus was carrying passengers including tourists from Gujarat, students and a non local labourer group on its way to Kashmir valley.
Among the passengers who died on the spot were six women. Besides, a group of young students from Rajouri, Poonch and Akhnoor areas of Jammu who were on their way to participate in Army recruitment rally in Kashmir, are among the dead. Driver slipping into a nap is stated to be the cause of the accident.
As soon as the news of the accident reached District headquarter Ramban, the Quick Response Teams including the local police, volunteers of District Red Cross Society, soldiers of Territorial Army, CRPF and the locals rushed to the spot and started rescue operation and recovered the dead bodies from the gorge, beside shifting the injured to District Hospital Ramban from where 22 critically injured persons were airlifted to Government Medical College Jammu.
The deceased were identified as Sonia (5 yrs) D/O Suresh Kumar, Radha Devi W/o Rajinder Kumar, Krishan Lal S/o Manga Singh, Dilsukh S/O Manga Lal all R/o Taran Jalandar, Roma Begum w/o Sujan Khan R/O A/P Satwari Airport Rani Bagh, Sharda Devi, Ramiz Khan S/O Mohammad Khalil R/O Sukhi Maidan Poonch, Ct. Mohammad Ayoob S/O Ghulam Hassan Malik, Shahzad S/O Mohamad Saraj both R/O Hazari Bagh Jarkhand, Kulwant Singh, Vijay Kumar son of Ashok Kumar R/O Yamna Nagar Rajasthan, Murtaza son of Mohammad Qasim Gujjar R/O Mendhar and 5 unidentified bodies of male and females. The injured presently undergoing treatment at GMC Jammu and District Hospital Ramban were identified as Manoj Kumar (18 yrs) S/O Darshan Kumar R/O Ahmedabad Gujarat, Mukesh Kumar (10 yrs), Sahil Kumar (4 yrs) S/O Kishore Lal, Kishore Kumar (42 yrs) S/O Shanker Das, Natwar Lal (42 yrs) S/O Kashu Ram, Anil Kumar (18 yrs) S/O Natwar Lal, Kishore S/O Mool Chand, Sabita Devi (35 yrs) wife of Kishore, Sushil Kumar (20 yrs) S/O Rajinder Kumar all residents of Taran Tara Amritsar Punjab, Vikram (18 yrs) S/O Kishore R/O Patiala Punjab, Parshotam Lal son of Kishore Lal R/O Akhnoor Jammu, Imran Ansari S/O Mohammad Saraj R/O Jarkhand, Arshar Ahmed S/O Liaqat Hussain R/O Hazari Bagh Jarkhand, Mohammad Iqbal S/O Abdul Aziz R/O Poonch, Lalu Mazi S/O Hira Mazi R/O Bangari Bihar Chak, Mohammad Asgar S/O Mohammad Rafiq R/O Hazari Bagh Jarkhand, Mohammad Aslam S/O Nisar Ahmed R/O Poonch, Anwar-ul-Haq S/O Abdul Rouf, Mohammad Asif S/O Mohammad Akbar both R/O Khas Baladi Poonch, Vickey Sharma S/O Ashok Kumar, Ashok Kumar S/O Lal Chand both R/O Akhnoor, Mohammad Waris S/O Mohammad Mukhtiar R/O Hazari Bagh Jarkhand, Omkar Singh S/O Janak Singh R/O Ukhral Ramban, Rajinder Kumar S/O Chadu Lal R/O Jalander Punjab, Rohit Sharma S/O Sham Lal R/O Akhnoor, Umesh Kumar S/O Harin Mazi, Mohammad Zar S/O Abdul Alias both R/O Matyari Bihar, Romesh Lal S/O Kishore Lal R/O Gujrat, Maal Mandal, Shakeel Ahmed S/O Sayed Mohammad R/O Poonch, Rahim Khan S/O Sujan Khan, Sujan Khan son of Jahingir Khan both A/P Satwari Airport Raj Bagh and one unknown injured.
In another accident, an overloaded Tata Sumo bearing Registration No. JK12A-1978 on way from Mendhar to Mankot met with an accident near Chani Pul as a result 13 persons got injured four of them seriously and were referred to GMC Jammu, but four injured shifted to GMC succumbed to their injuries later and were identified as a local contractor Abdul Hamid (70 yrs) son of Jumma Gujjar and Sakhi Mohammad (55 yrs) son of Immam Din both R/o /o Chajla. The injured were identified as Mohammad Sharif (60 yrs) son of Shah Mohammad, Mohammad Ayoob (65 yrs) son of Bagh Hussain all resident of Sakhimadan, Ikaram Hussain (60 yrs) son of Bagga, Nasseem Ahmed son of Imam Khan R/o Mankot, Mohammad Azam (70 yrs) son of Mirbaz, Zeshan (6yrs) son Imran Anjum both R/o Chajla, Mohammad Aftab (22 yrs) son of Ghulam Rubani R/o Mankot, Abdul Razak (55 yrs)son of Sai Mohammad R/o Chak Mohalla, Tasveer Bi (65 yrs) wife of Ghulam Qadir R/o Dharana, Mohammad Imran (25 yrs) son Mohammad Majid R/o Chajla and Janat Be (50 yrs) wife of Sakhi Mohammad R/o Chajla.
At Kishtwar,a JCB driver identified as Sajjad Hussain (24 yrs) son of Mohammad Rafiq R/O Gandoh died after his JCB machine met with an accident near Drabshala Kishtwar. Troops of 8 RR rushed to the spot and recovered the dead body from 200 meter deep gorge. Meanwhile, A motorcyclist was killed after his bike was hit by a Tipper near Green Bar, Dhar Road in Udhampur town.
According to police report, a Tipper bearing Registration No JK14C-3453 hit a Motorcycle bearing registration no JK14B-2261 near Green Bar, Udhampur due to which the bike rider identified as Ashish Gupta, 24, son of Munshi Ram Gupta of Satyani got critically injured.
Police rushed to the spot and took the injured person to District Hospital, Udhampur from where the doctors referred him to GMC&H Jammu where doctors declared him as brought dead.
Meanwhile, Udhampur Police seized the tipper and registered a case.
In yet another accident at Majalta in Udhampur , 24 persons sustained injuries when a bus in which they were travelling rolled down into deep gorge at Beraltha near Majala District Udhampur.
According to the reports a bus bearing registration No. JK02W-5231 was on its way from Buttal Morh to Billawar when driver lost control over the vehicle and it rolled down into deep gorge Beraltha in near Majaltta. Police after receiving information rushed the spot and took the injured persons to PHC Majalta, where doctors referred 8 injured persons to GMC Hospital Jammu and Five to District Hospital Udhampur.
The injured persons identified as Savit Devi (40) wife of Parabudayal of Katra, Chain Singh (38) son of Krishan Singh of Dansal, Garnal Singh (51) son of Kamal Singh of Manwal, Nelam Sharma (38) wife of Romash Chander of Majalta, Shakil Mohammad. (7) son of Saif Mohammad Malik of Kanyala, Shabiya Bagam (19) wife of Gafur Khan of Dansal, Nasiba (16) Daughter of Saif Mohammad. of Kanyala, Khemraj (38) son of Basudav of Bilabar, Anil Kumar (25) son of Ram Chand of Gudh Kalial, Pankaj (20) son of Kalu Ram of Tila, Ashwani Kumar (28) son of Rumal Chand of Bilawar,Prabudyal (48) of Katra, Ritika Sharma (18) of Manwal, Shivali Jambal (18) of Kishan Pur, Brijmohan (59) of Katra, Mamta Sharma (28) of Katra, Mahadav Singh (35) of Panthal, Kuldeep Singh (38) of Sidla, Sabitri Devi (40) of Katra, Shkil Mohd.(60) of Jandrha, Farida Bagam (40) of Dansal, Yog Raj (35) Rattan Lal of Jajar kotli, Nelam (34) of Majalta and Raj Kumar (18) son of Romesh Kumar of Choor Motu. Majalta Police has registered the case and further investigation is goes on. |
