Cross LOC traders hold meeting at Chakan Da Bagh

POONCH, May 20: To ensure smooth trade and review pace and progress of cross border trade activities LOC traders today held a meeting held at Chakan Da Bagh zero point on Poonch Rawlakote road.
Besides 115 traders from both sides, the meeting was attended by Director General Trade and travel of POK Waien, Dy. Commissioner Rawlakote Faried Chowdhary, Dy. Commissioner Poonch Sajjad Ahmed Khan, SP Poonch Shamsher Hussain Chowdhary and other officers related to cross LOC trade.
While speaking on this occasion, the Deputy Commissioner Poonch Sajjad Ahmed Khan said that the meeting was convened to facilitate the traders of both sides and discuss their trade related problems and disputes. He hoped that trade venture will help in building the economy of the border people.
The traders represented that the list of the items appearing in the SOP may be increased and trade may be need based instead of origin based.
The chairman of federation of industries Anil Suri while appreciating the efforts of district administration Poonch for arranging this meeting welcomed traders of both the parts and said that such type of meetings shall help in boosting the trade across the LOC.
The Dy. Commissioner Rawlakote Faried Chowdhary said that trade is a good CBM for the people of both parts of Kashmir and such meetings bring people more closer to each other and create friendly relations.
The trade custodian cross LOC trade Chakan Da Bagh Poonch Bashir Ahmed Lone disclosed that there are 165 traders who are doing trade venture cross the LOC from this side while 171 traders are involved from the other sides. 73 labourers of border area of Poonch are getting employment in trade centre Poonch in loading and unload business.
At present 25 loaded trucks every day are crossing from this side on four trade days from Tuesday to Friday every week. Banana, Imly, Jeera, Red Chilly Lemon and Herbs are generally exported and Dry date Apple, Herbs and Almond apart from embroidery items are imported from the other side.
The business of nearly 5 crore from both the side takes place every week.
