Early Times Report

Anantnag, May 20: Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party president, Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday pinned hopes on BJP's Prime Minister designate, Narendra Modi that he will carry forward the former Indian Prime Minister, Atal Biharie Vajpyee's Kashmir policy. Interacting with media after addressing a gathering in South Kashmir's Anantnag district after a thumping victory in Parliamentary elections, said, "We are quit hopeful that Narendra Modi as the Indian Prime Minister will carry forward the policy of Atal Biharie Vaypee on Kashmir." She also hoped that as the prime minster he will maintain the friendly relationship with them.
While thanking people of Kashmir for voting for change in the recently concluded elections, Mehbooba assured that she along with other parliamentarians of the party will try their best to meet the expectations of the general public. "Thankfully, this time people came out and voted for change so we will try our best to meet their expectations." She said. Criticizing separatists and likeminded groups who created fear among the people who reposed their faith in the Indian democratic system, she said, "We don't have any problem with the groups who call for boycott but they way few anti-democratic groups used stone pelting, gun and other violet means to ensure poll boycott was condemnable and unacceptable."
Reacting to NC's defeat in Parliamentary elections, Mehbooba Said, "I am not going to accept that a defeat in an election is any end of a political party. So today we have won the election but in 2008 it was National conference who had won the elections so defeat and win is the certainly fate of a political party." She added PDP is the only single largest political party of the state with a definite agenda and it will try to be a strong opposition party for making the governments answerable. Gathering was also addressed by several other party leaders including its legislators.
