Earlier in reply to the RTI filed by Deepak it was revealed that 1938 units of blood went down the drain in 3 years in two premier Government hospitals of the city. One of the major reasons for the blood wastage has been the poor mechanism followed for blood storage and absence of maintaining the temperature of blood units during its shifting from the blood bank to the recipient department or on receiving it back at the blood bank owing to its non-utilization. The activist then approached State Information Commission with complaint seeking directions to the health authorities to proactively display information regarding availability of blood units in hospitals under section 4 of the J&K RTI Act 2009. |
