Srinagar, May 20: Refusing to resign under any pressure, the Panchayat members from different blocks of Kashmir valley today categorically said that the claim of claiming resign from the Sarpanches and Panches lies only with the voters who had elected them. A large number of Sarpanches belonging to different blocks of Kashmir valley gathered here at SKICC Srinagar on Tuesday under the banner of All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) and highlighted their issues and said that they are elected representatives by the people and their electoral have right to seek resign from the Sarpanches and Panches. In a four hour long marathon meeting presided over by Shafiq Mir Chairman AJKPC, the participating members unanimously resolved that any resignation from their side will be injustice with the voters who had elected them. In a statement issued that their institution should not be linked with Kashmir issue and they had contested this election only for the sake of development and they are bound to serve the people who had given them this responsibility. The Panchayat members hold the government and other mainstream political parties responsible for making their role suspicious by linking the Panchayat elections with Kashmir issue. However, the Panchayat members expressed their anguish over the statement of some leaders in which they were labeled as informers. "This statement has pained us collectively and they have demanded the identification of if any such person involved in any such activity". Members also reiterated their demand of security to the Panchayat members and also alleged that government has made this institution defunct by not empowering them. |
