Early Times Report

jammu, June 29: With the unearthing of nearly Rs two crore food scam the axe may fall on various officers of CAPD Department in Ganderbal district of Kashmir Valley. According to sources the authorities for immediate damage control have put one store keeper under suspension but this is not going to satisfy the masses who are up in arms against the CAPD Department demanding a high level probe and action against the guilty under law. Sources said that ration and sugar meant for the consumers under APL category is not distributed among them and maximum chunk of it is sold in black. The Peoples Conference (PC) held a protest demonstration in front of DC Office Ganderbal and demanded action against the CAPD officers under law. The demonstration was led by district coordinator of the party Mir Ghulam Rasool and it was also addressed by newly appointed district president, Ghulam Ahmed Bhat.\Earlier the irate activists of the Party took out a procession from Bihama public park to DC Office Ganderbal. The protestors raising slogans against food scam, ration scarcity, power and water crisis held the authorities responsible for the plight of the people. They demanded that people be given immediate relief from the crisis and distribution of ration be made better. Mir, while addressing demonstrators said that the ration is supplied to the people as per 2001 census and instead 35 kgs as approved by Government for family the CAPD is g\supplying only 25 kgs per family. He said the Department gives the excuse that the rest ration is supplied to those families who have multiplied after 2001 and were not given the ration card. He said even four to eight members family or above is given only 35 kgs of ration which is not justified. He also demanded action against the officers responsible for food scan in Ganderbal and said that as per the Government schedule 700 grams of sugar is to be given to per member of a family but the Department does not give more than three Kgs of sugar to eight member family also which is also unjustified. This needs to be probed. Likewise the K Oil is also sold in black and people get the supply after two to three months. He said the Ganderbal district alone has a shortage of 3500 qtls of ration. The protestors also expressed concern over power crisis and discrimination in tariff charges from consumers. He said a person with one or two rooms is charged the same bill which the people living in palatial houses are charged. He also demanded that master plan scheme water be supplied to Butwani, Waskura, Gurzhama, and transport facilities in these localities be also made better besides renovation of dilapidated roads. Mir demanded that subsidy on purchase of tractors be given to small farmers having 10 canals of land also.
