| And now, Shiite Muslims protest in Kashmir | | Act before it is too late | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 29 : The situation in Jammu & Kashmir could worsen. The reason is that the Shiite Muslims, who are in minority in the state, are up in arms against the Arab Sunnis, who have unleashed a war against the Arab Shiite community and Shiite-dominated dispensation in Iraq with a view to establishing a particular type of rule. The Sunni terrorists and terrorist organizations like the ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and Levant) have unleashed a reign of senseless brutalities on the Shiite Muslims, including Iraqi soldiers and innocent unarmed civilians, including men, women and children. The heavily armed terrorists are killing them in cold blood and at public places. They have also captured a number of important towns which the Shiite Muslims hold very dear. It's total anarchy that has been prevailing in Iraq for quite sometime now and if things are not brought under control immediately, the consequences would be dangerous not only for Iraq, the Muslim world, Europe and USA, but also India, which also houses millions of Shiite Muslims, who have left none in any doubt that they hate what the Arab Sunnis are doing in Iraq and that there could be retaliation on their part. In Jammu & Kashmir, which is already a troubled state and where Pakistan and its handful of Kashmiri agents, including militants, bloody and convulse the socio-religious and political scene at regular intervals, the Shiite community has also registered its protest against the unfortunate happening in Iraq. It all started from Jammu last week, when hundreds of the concerned Shiite Muslims assembled in Jammu to lodge a strong protest against the Sunni terrorists. They urged the authorities in the state and at the centre to intervene and help the Iraqi Government restore peace and order in that country. On Friday, thousands of angry Shiite Muslims assembled in Srinagar as well to express their anger against what is being done to their co-religionists. Protestors in their thousands, who marched from Abiguzar to Lal Chowk, had come from different Kashmir districts after offering Friday prayers in their mosques calling for protest against what they called "persecution of Shiite Muslims in Iraq". Around 3000 youth belonging to community even offered to "go to Iraq and help the rescue operations there". They dismissed the ISIL as a terrorist outfit" and said "Karbala and Najaf are their holy cities". They made a passionate appeal to all to come forward to stop killings. "The terror ISIL is spreading in Iraq and other parts of the world is against Islam. Karbala is our sacred site, where the battle leading to the martyrdom of Imam Hussein took place several centuries ago. Najaf is also one of our holiest sites, housing the Shrine of Imam Ali. We won't tolerate disrespect to our religion in any case, we want to convey to out Shia brothers that we are there for them morally and we will not shy away from extending any support whatsoever that they needs," the protestors were quoted as saying. The situation in Jammu & Kashmir could assume alarming proportions in the days to come, notwithstanding the fact that the protestors also called for Shia-Sunni unity and charged the western media with "converting the conflict into sectarian divide". The fact that they talked about the brutalities being perpetrated by the ISIL on the Shiite Muslims of Iraq was a clear indication of what they thought about the nature of ongoing bloody conflict in that gulf country. The authorities in the state and at the Centre have not only to help the Government of Iraq restore peace in that country but also have to remain extra vigilant so that nothing untoward happens anywhere in the state. Complacency would not be in the larger interest. |
