| Local BJP leaders sabotage move to induct Lal Singh into party | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 29: A group of BJP leaders has sabotaged the move to induct Congress leader and former Member Parliament Choudhary Lal Singh in the party. BJP leaders had strongly opposed any such move to induct Lal Singh in the party. Credible sources in the BJP said that Rajya Sabha member Avinash Rai Khanna, who is incharge of J&K BJP, had tried to convince the central high command that Choudhary Lal Singh should be inducted into the party. Khanna tried to convince the high command that Lal Singh has strong base in Kathua district. He further disclosed that it was all due to the indirect support of Choudhary Lal Singh that BJP candidate Dr Jitendra Singh has defeated Congress stalwart and former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. Khanna pointed out that BJP has won Udhampur Lok Sabha seat only due to over-whelming support from Kathua district. Credible sources said that local BJP leaders who were present in the meeting intervened and opposed any such move. They said that induction of Choudhary Lal Singh will give wrong message to the grass-root level workers. They said that already a number of "outsiders" are staking claims of assembly seats. Keeping in view the tough stand taken by local leaders, the high command has decided not to take any haste decision in this regard. Credible sources said that Choudhary Lal Singh has not approached BJP for joining but some party leaders are trying to induct him in the party as token of gesture for his role in Lok Sabha elections. |
