Police overcome stiff resistance from women to nab notorious drug peddlers

RAJOURI, June 29: Rajouri police late Sunday evening faced tough resistance from women in Danidhar area when it raided a house after an information that some drug peddlers were holding meeting inside the house. The house was owned by one Nazir Ahmad resident of Jhallas in Poonch district and presently putting up in the house along with his family. After specific intelligence inputs developed by the police sources, a police team headed by Hamid Choudhry , DSP HQs, Yashpal Sharma ,SHO cordoned off a house in Danidhar locality in the vicinity of Rajouri city owned by one Nazir Ahmed s/o Lal Hussain resident of Jhalas (in Poonch district).
According to police information some notorious drug peddlers including Rajan Gupta @ Ladi s/o Raj Kumar resident of Kalakot, Ajay Kumar s/o Chander Parkash resident of Dhangri and Azim s/o Gulzar Hussian resident of Gujjar Mand and few others were holding meeting to chalk out strategies for their network. As the police party reached near the house women including daughters of Nazir Ahmed and his wife Jamsaid Begam , who is reportedly involved in the network and was booked by the police, started pelting stones on the police party and on some scribes who had gone to cover the police raid. After about 10 minutes of stone pelting in which some policemen received minor injuries police resorted to minor lathi charge and over powered all the four drug peddlers. As the police was on way to police station, women blocked the main road near Seema chowk and staged protest against the police. Jamsaid Begam who claimed that she received injury in the lathi charge alleged that for the last few months police have been harassing the family.
All the women were later lifted by the strong contingent of police and reportedly taken to undisclosed place for further questioning. Reliable sources said that all the above mentioned accused have been brought to police station and in consultation with senior officers will be booked under relevant sections. Meanwhile while talking to some reporters superintendent of police , Mubassir Latifi said that all the accused are involved in this heinous crimes and have been booked several times. "Police may consider recommending Public Safety Act (PSA) against few of them as the people of the area were constantly complaining about anti social activities in their area" said Latifi. According to some reliable sources all the accused have been booked under sections 147/148/332/353/336 and 506 RPC in FIR No331/14. Superintendent of police also said that action will also be taken against the women who resorted to stone pelting on the police party.
