International Girl child day celebrated | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Oct 12: Third International Girl child day celebrated at Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS) at Darhal. According to press release, the celebration was presided over by Dr Iqbal, BMO Dharhal. BMO and other Health officials including doctors delivered their views on this year's theme 'Empowering adolescent girls, ending the cycle of violence'. The function was held in the girl's school and Dr Iqbal threw light on the violence against the adolescent girls, health schemes for the girls and on the schemes launched by other departments to protect their rights. Question session was also held on this occasion and it was observed that the girls were very curious about their safety, health and other issues. Qari Anzar Malik, lecturer for Arabic also spoke on this occasion. Members of civil society, representatives of NGOs and health officials were also present on this occasion which was organized on the directions of Dr Rajeev Sharma, CMO Rajouri. Dr Iqbal said that October 11 was marked as 'International Day of the Girl Child' by the United Nations in 2012 and the day promotes girl's human rights, highlights gender inequalities and addresses the various forms of discrimination and abused suffered by the girls around the world. 'Ending of child marriage' was the theme of first International Day of the Girl Child while in 2013 the theme was 'Innovating for girls' education' and in 2014 the theme is 'Empowering adolescent girls: Ending the cycle of violence'. |
