Congress in self-destruction mode Separation from Kashmir the only option left for Jammu 10/12/2014 10:39:33 PM Rustam JAMMU, Oct 12: The Kashmiri ruling elite in collaboration with the Congress party has once again let down the people of Jammu province. The case in point is the recent appointment of Chairman and members of the J&K Public Service Commission. That the ruling coalition comprising the NC and the Congress didn't find any person from Jammu capable of holding the top job in the highest recruitment body in the state established beyond any shadow of doubt that the people of Jammu province, Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs included, have no place whatsoever in the scheme of things of the NC and the Congress. This was not the first occasion when the ruling elite in the state treated the people of Jammu province shabbily. What it did the other day was only reiteration of its stand that the only duty of the people of Jammu province is to pay taxes and suffer and that they are entitled to only crumbs. Those in the Congress party who accuse the Kashmiri leadership of perpetrating injustice on Jammu and say Jammu province needed a regional council and the office of Chief Minister only indulge in rabble-rousing for political gains or promote their elfish interests. In public meetings, they talk about Jammu and its plight, but when it comes to the crunch, they cheerfully dance to the tunes of their Kashmiri masters and cause harm to their own constituency (read people of Jammu province). Its no wonder that vary many people in Jammu province blame Congress more than the NC for their miserable plight. It was hoped that the humiliating defeat of the Congress candidates in the last general election would make the Congress leadership review its whole approach towards the people of Jammu province, but it has not happened. It continues to pursue the same old policy towards Jammu province with whose support it has been sharing political power with the Kashmiri parties since 2002 and the result is that its support-base has further dwindled in this region. The Congress had been in a commanding position for almost 12 years now, but it missed the bus by playing with and outraging the sensitivities of the people of Jammu province. The worst part of the whole situation is that all the groups within the Congress are out and out Kashmir-centric. Those who demand trifurcation of the state saying this is the only option left for the people of Jammu province do make a valid point. Indeed, the time has come for the separation of Jammu and Ladakh from Kashmir. They need a regime which is theirs own.
