Muslim Governor, Hindu Chief Minister for JK
Centre formulates new Kashmir policy?

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 12: Hectic activities are on in New Delhi to change the political dynamics in Jammu and Kashmir and to get rid of family Raaj in the state.
Sources told Early Times that new Kashmir policy which has been framed by the BJP led NDA government has stressed on the need to change the "political dynamics" in Jammu and Kashmir to pave the way for secessionism to end and mainstream politicians taking advantage of the prevailing uncertainty in the state.
At the first place, sources said, Centre for the first time in past six decades is mulling to appoint Muslim Governor in Jammu and Kashmir. "A few names have been making rounds and former General Office Commanding of Srinagar based Chinar Corps (Retd) Lt Gen Atta Hasnain is all set to take over from the incumbent Governor N N Vohra," sources said.
They said there are a few technical difficulties which need to be sorted out before finalizing the appointment of (Retd) Lt Gen Hasnain as JK's new Governor. "The JK Governor has to head Shri Amarnath Shrine Board and Shri Mata Vashino Devi Board and Shri Mata Vashino Devi University and a Muslim cannot head it. Before appointing the former GOC as the new Governor of the state the charge of these vital institutions would be handed over to someone who holds a political position in the state," said a source.
He said Centre is seriously considering the suggestion put forward by the think tanks to have a Hindu Chief Minister in JK. "Having a Hindu Chief Minister will change the political scenario in Jammu and Kashmir once for all and will further consolidate the centre-state relationship," the source added.
The BJP candidates taking a lead in most of the assembly segments in Jammu region during the last Parliamentary elections held earlier this year and Congress candidates biting dust has boasted the morale of the BJP workers and the leaders. They have started believing that they can bag maximum number of seats in the forthcoming assembly elections in the Jammu region.
Sources said that BJP high command has told the Kashmir based leaders to enter into an alliance with small parties in the Valley so that if they fall short of a few seats they can enter into an alliance with the local parties and form the government.
"Top BJP leadership is in touch with the Chairman of Peoples Conference Sajad Gani Lone and is hopeful of entering into a post-poll alliance in JK," the source added.
The new policy makers believe that Congress and National Conference have been instrumental in pushing away the people of Kashmir from centre despite New Delhi sending millions of rupees to JK. "The new policy makers want the benefits of the centrally sponsored schemes to reach out to the people directly rather than brokers reaping the benefits," the source said.
The policy makers, according to the sources, believe that having a Hindu Chief Minister in Jammu and Kashmir would once for all lead to end to the secessionism and would stop Pakistan's interference in the internal affairs of India.
