Early Times Report

JAMMU, Oct 12: Congress leaders of Jammu district are not happy with their party ministers who have failed to strongly take up the case of border residents in the government.
Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Prof Saif-ud-Soz today especially called media interaction to give an impression that Congress was going to strongly take up the issue of providing alternative land to the border people, living with five kilometres of International Border (IB). Prof Soz announced that in the next Cabinet meeting Congress ministers would force the government to take decision on this long pending issue.
Prof Soz said that at any cost Congress Ministers would get this issue addressed in the next cabinet meeting.
Credible sources in the Congress said that party leaders especially those who are staking their claims on border seats have expressed their resentment over failure of the party leaders to convince the coalition partner National Conference to allot alternative land to border residents at safer places. These leaders reportedly told party leadership that it was high time to take decision on this long pending demand.
It was Congress which had promised allotment of alternative plots of the border residents living in the firing range but party failed to get this demand fulfilled due to failure of its leaders. This demand was incorporated in 2002 and 2008 election manifesto of Congress party. But even after attaining power Congress leadership never gave seriousness to this important issue.
At a time when assembly elections are round the corner, Congress leadership realized that it was the appropriate time to directly take on National Conference on this issue so Prof Soz today made it clear that his party was not going to make any compromise on this issue.
