Enraged Kashmiris seek dismissal of Omar Govt | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Oct 12: Peeved over the dismal performance of the coalition Government, majority of people in flood ravaged Kashmir Valley want its dismissal and promulgation of Governor's rule in the State for smooth distribution of relief material among the flood victims. The State Government has failed to come to the expectations of the masses and provide succor to those who were dislocated and uprooted by last month's devastating floods. This is what the commoner in Valley of Kashmir believes. The people accuse the NC-Congress coalition of its total failure in providing relief to the victims who have suffered heavy damage in flash floods and lost everything. During the last one month the Government has not taken any concrete steps in rehabilitating those victims whose houses have been fully or partially damaged in the floods, said Mohammed Khaliq a resident of Gogji Bagh Srinagar which was mostly affected by September 7 and 8 floods and where many houses have been damaged. He said instead of passing bucks on Centre the coalition has failed to come to the expectations of the masses. The relief material which was send from different parts of country especially food grains have not been distributed properly due to lack of coordination among the different agencies of State Government, he added. He said there is lot of resentment in Kashmir Valley in general and Srinagar city in particular that people were not provided ration on the occasion of Eid when a full train loaded with rice was allowed to perish at Udhampur Railway track. This rice had come from Chhattisgarh State for flood hit people of J&K. It is a pity thatneither this rice was distributed in those areas of Jammu province which were hit by floods nor in Kashmir Valley. Ridiculing the Chief Minister and Congress leaders for holding Union Government responsible for not sending the relief he said when they failed to distribute the relief which was already sent to the State how can Centre send more. ``This Government should be disbanded and the Centre should take relief distribution in its own hands said'', Ghulam Ahmed of Bemina another locality of city which was also hit by floods and where a lot of devastation was caused. He said medicines and other relief material is still dumped at airport and other places and State Government has failed to lift the same and distribute among the people. It shows that the State Government is totally incapable of distributing the relief and rehabilitate the flood victims so it has no right to stay in office. The people will heave a sigh of relief if the relief is distributed among the victims by Central Government agencies as both Congress and NC are doing politics at the cost of flood hit people of the State. Turning tables on the coalition Government the newly formed Peoples Republic Party State Executive Member Mir Ghulam Rasool said that the flood victims were even deprived of ration on the occasion of Eid. Ridiculing the CM's claims to provide six months ration free of cost to flood victims he said that the coalition has made a cruel joke with the people of the State. He said even a month has passed but the free ration for the 26 notified flood hit villages has not been allotted to CAPD Ganderbal and moreover the deserving areas where the flash floods created a havoc were totally ignored even in Chief Minister's Constituency. He demanded that a transparency be maintained in relief distribution and Union Government should distribute the same through its own agencies so that the deserving people are not deprived of the same. |
