Central team visits Rajouri, access flood losses

RAJOURI, Oct 18: To assess the damages caused by September month's devastating landslides, flash floods caused due to incessant rains, a four member central team headed by B Tripathi today visited Rajouri and interacted with the heads of various departments and district administration.
As per its initial programme the team members from various Union Government Ministries had to visit some places and family members of those who were killed, but their programme restricted to the Dak Bunglow .
Team members interacted with the heads of the various departments including Irrigation & flood Control, PWD (R&B), Chief Education Officer etc besides officials of the revenue department.
They also inquired from the concerned officials about the details of the quantum of losses sent by the district administration to the State Government (forwarded to the Union government).
Team members also discussed in detail about the areas affected by the floods and losses to agricultural/ non agricultural land.
As 90 percent of the population in the district lives in rural areas the team members held a thread bearing discussion with the officials so that the exact quantum of loss can be gauge.
The team members also collected information about the restored and un-restored schemes. Saleem Malik , ADDC apprised the central team about the damages incurred to the schemes of various departments including roads and bridges .
The team members also collected the data regarding restored / un-restored works/schemes.
They also conducted air survey of the areas which were badly affected by the devastating flash floods including damaged houses and washed away agricultural land.
The State government has worked out losses to the tune of Rs44000 crores caused due to last month flash floods. Before releasing any special package to the J&K government Union government has decided to carry out its own survey to assess the losses to the private property and government infrastructure.
