Holding of annual exams in March leads to division of opinion among masses in Kashmir | | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Oct 18: State government's decision to hold the annual examination in March 2015 has led to conflicting stands among the people of Kashmir. While a group of people welcome the decision a parallel group has opposed the move. Sharing their views with Early Times a group of people said that March session should be a permanent feature. These people said that as the March session is in practice in the other states there is no reason that the same cannot be made applicable in Jammu & Kashmir. "The state government's decision to hold the annual examination in March should be treated as a blessing in disguise. The students can prepare for the examination during the winter and they would be raring to go to face the examination. This is a good idea and needs to be taken forward from next year onwards as well," said Ali Mohammad, a government teacher. Ali Mohammad said that the March session for annual examination would eliminate the coaching centre culture with the students being the ultimate beneficiaries. He said the winter months are lost with students not making any worthwhile progress in their studies. He added the students of state would not lose time and they would be at par with students of other states once the March session is made a permanent feature. "Students can make optimum use of the winter if the March session of annual examination is made a regular feature. Otherwise, the winter passes off with the students making little progress in their curriculum. The state government should seriously think over the issue so that the students do not suffer in future now," said Imtiyaz Ahmad, a teacher. On the other side a group of people say that the March session would not be feasible for the state since the winter conditions are very much prevalent during March. These people said that September-October session is the best for holding examination in the state. "Once the examinations are held in September-October the results are declared soon and the new classes begin from last week of October. As such the students get to know about the basics of the different subjects of the next class before the announcement of winter vacations. They then improve upon during the months of winter," said Zahoor Ahmad, a parent. Zahoor said that Jammu & Kashmir is different from the other states in many respects and as such the examination session too has to be different. He said since the practice of holding annual examination in September-October has been going for ages with success now there is no reason for changing it without any substantial reason. "The weather conditions are perfect in September-October and students can appear in examination during these two months without any difficulty. Same is not true with the holding of examination in March when the winter is still there. As such weather also does not permit for holding of annual examination in March," said Shabir Ahmad, a teacher. |
