ECI likely to hold Assembly elections on time

JAMMU, Oct 18: Decision on much talked about Assembly elections finally came to an end after Election Commission of India (ECI) today indicated of holding elections on time alongwith Jharkhand in December.
Full team of ECI after completing their scheduled one day visit to Jammu and Kashmir in a press conference held here today said that during their assessment tour about holding Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, it came to fore that state administration in general including police as well recognized political parties are ready for holding elections in near future but with a condition that election process should not disturb relief and rehabilitation process of the flood affected people of the state.
"Except few political parties all other recognized political parties of Jammu and Kashmir, all Deputy Commissioner's, who were contacted through video conferencing today, Police, security forces are ready for elections on time. We will try and assure that relief and rehabilitation process does not get disturbed due to elections," said Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) V.S. Sampath.
Full bench of ECI which visited Jammu and Kashmir including Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath, Election Commissioner of India, Nasim Zaidi, Chief Electoral Officer of Jammu and Kashmir, Umang Narula besides others said that 'team was informed by concerned officials about security situation as well which though is not good in some parts of the state, they took stock of required infrastructure from officials, they sought reports from Inspector General of Police, they also took reports from Principal secretary of Revenue and Principal Secretary of Power Development Department, now the team after reaching Delhi would need to discuss that Relief and Rehabilitation Process for flood affected people which is going on should not get disturbed due to elections and everything goes smoothly during election in the state.'
Chief Election Commissioner also said that deputy Chief election Commissioner of India had also very recently visited Jammu and Kashmir and added that 'here he has met heads of all the political parties, sought reports from administration about required infrastructure for conducting elections in near future in detailed manner, now today full bench visited the state with the same purpose to know due date for conducting elections, worked though out the day on the issue, so now after analyzing the reports of all the people who visited Jammu and Kashmir, most likely within a week it would be announced whether elections would be conducted or not and what shall be the due date for the same.'
The bench said that ECI was busy with conducting election in many other states of the country and now after Haryana, Jharkhand elections are also on cards with Jammu and Kashmir, ECI would see if elections of Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand could be conducted on a single date.
