Situations not conducive for elections: JKYSAC | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 18: A meeting of JK Youth Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKYSAC) was held here today under the leadership of RC Sharma wherein they appealed Election Commission of India (ECI) for postponement of elections as according to them the situations are not conducive for elections in Jammu and Kashmir due to flash floods. While addressing the meeting, Sharma said that despite the relief distribution process is going on in the state but the state is not prepared to have an assembly election at the due time. He said that it would be unwise on the part of Election Commission of India to hold the election on the time as people are still in trauma and most of the villages of flood ravaged area of state are still uprooted and there is no sign that it would be rehabilitated within a period of one year and how can we talk about holding of elections when the people would not get the chance to cast their votes. The election process means that everybody gets the opportunity to cast his vote for electing the new government but if we go biased and if deliberately we debar some section for voting it means we are working against the spirit of Indian constitution and defeating the purpose of Election commission of India. He said a team lead by Jaspal Singh had visited the Kashmir and took the stock of the situation and told the committee that conduction of election on the proposed time is to kill the spirit of democracy, and the assembly elections should be postponed with invoking the president rule in the state. |
