Rapist awarded 12 years imprisonment | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 28 : Presiding Officer Fast Track Court Y.P.Kotwal today awarded 12 years rigorous imprisonment and fine Rs 50,000 to Sanjay Kumar who was facing trial in rape with a minor of eight years old girl. Presiding Officer Fast Track Court YP Kotwal after hearing Additional Public Prosecutor G.S. Charak appearing for state whereas Adv Rozina Afzal appearing for the accused person, observed that rape cases and the cases relating to the crime against women particularly pertaining to young female children have alarmingly increased in recent time and the social impact of the heinous crime as in present case when it related to a helpless girl child below 9 years of age cannot be lost sight of per se, it requires exemplary treatment. Court further observed that any liberal attitude by imposing meagre sentence or taking sympathetic view merely on account of young age of convict besides his economic condition or other irrelevant considerations with result counterproductive in the long run and to view such an offence one it is provided, lightly, is itself affront to the society. With these observations Court awarded 12 years rigorous imprisonment and fine Rs 50,000 to the accused Sanjay Kumar and further ordered that if the fine be realized than it shall be paid to prosecutrix.
