MCC to hamper developmental works | | | Shakeel A Khan
BUDGAM, Oct 28: As the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into force in the state; the government machinery seems to have fallen into the hands of the influential who have begun to hamper the functioning of different departments. The political interference has rendered the officials handicapped and it is all set to put a break on the developmental works, much to the annoyance of the commoners. The functioning in almost all the government departments has come to a grinding halt because of the political interference resulting in the inconveniences to the people. As a result of this most of the developmental works have been left midway. The areas which have the poor or no political representation have become the prime victims of the oppression of the agents of the parties in power. "We find it very hard to work in the circumstances where the functioning of the department is fully under the control of the people who are influential in the corridors of the power. Now as the model code of conduct has come into the force, the agents of the people in power have begun to exert pressure on us so that they get matters of their own solved in the dying movements since the coalition government is going to expire very soon," said Abdul Rashid, who is an employee in the rural development from while talking to the Early Times. Rashid said that the powerful lobby belonging to the ruling alliance interfere in the work of the departments like Irrigation and Flood Control, Public health engineering, health, Rural Development and other departments. Rashid went on saying that this interference reaches to its peak as the election times come nearer and nearer as they feel the sense of liberty. Some people at the village Nasarullapora, Budgam who were talked to by the Early Times were of the same opinion that the interference crosses all limits whenever dates for the elections are announced. "The movement of the agents of the people in power has picked up after the dates for the five phases of assembly elections were announced on Oct 25. These workers could be seen making rounds of different departments these days for the fulfilment of their own demands like loan cases, water supply connection, allotment of tenders and so on," these people said. The people of Budgam strongly believe that the department of rural development and municipal committees suffer the most. Be it the construction of a house under the IAY scheme or the allotment of the works under MGNREGA, the powerful lobby uses every influence, from the minister to the district president and make the officials surrender before them, these people say. People demand that the works should be done on the priority not under pressure or influence so that the commoners get benefitted. |
