VC JU to leave on Oct 31, Saraf likely to be In-charge | | | ET Report Jammu, Oct 28: Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University Prof. Mohan Pal Singh Isher is likely to quit on October 31 and join back in Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) Amritsar. Sources in the vice-chancellor's secretariat confirmed to Early Times that the VC would be leaving the University on October 31. This is despite the fact that his term as Vice-Chancellor of University of Jammu ends on January 27, 2015. He could have stayed on but with Governor N.N.Vohra's office indicating not to give another 3 years to Isher, sources said that VC decided to return to GNDU where he would be superannuating on November 4, 2014. They added that Isher is hopeful of getting extension in GNDU for two more years. If he would not join before November 4, the university would retire him, said the sources. They maintained that Isher has indicated of not handling over the charge to anyone in the University and instead, leave it to the wisdom of Chancellor of the University N.N.Vohra. They further said that VC would be sending a list of senior professors to the Raj Bhawan on October 31 alongwith copy of rules and regulations to decide and take a decision on who should be handed over the charge of University. Sources further said that faculty members and other staff members of the University want the charge to be handed over to dean Academic Affairs Prof. Neelam Saraf, which is also a legal stipulation as per the University Act. They further said that most of the faculty members are against giving the charge to Prof. R.D.Sharma since he has been facing allegations of various nature. Sources further said that Isher is unlikely to even recommend any name to the Governor. Whatever the case may be but Isher would be leaving the University with a heavy heart since he had been expecting extension in the service for another three years which was denied to him. |
