ECI issues first poll notification; NC, Cong yet to finalise candidates

JAMMU, Oct 28: As notification of Election Commission of India (ECI) for first phase of poling was issued today; National conference, Congress and BJP alongwith some other newly launched parties who are yet to finalize candidates for various assembly constituencies would be making the announcement in the next few days.
After ECI Today issued notification for the first of the five phases of assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir which as per notification has set November 5 as deadline for candidates to file notification after which on November 7 scrutiny of notification would be held and till November 10 candidates can withdraw nominations, National conference (NC) and Congress leaders minutes after the appearance of notification assembled to finalize list of candidates likely to contest elections and have decided to announce it today only due to varied reasons.
Credible Sources within NC revealed that after lot of deliberations among senior party office bearers in absence of NC working President, Omar Abdullah who is in London and scheduled to reach Kashmir today, it was finally decided that Omar shall contest from Ganderbal only as Sonawar which was hit by floods badly and people of the area like rest of the flood affected areas of Kashmir are up against Omar led coalition decided that the seat was no more safe for Omar to contest.
Pertinently as NC is yet to decide on the mandates for three constituencies which include Ganderbal as well besides Bandipora and Inderwal Districts out of 15 which are scheduled to go for polls on November 25; the first phase of the process, besides there are many other constituencies including Hazratbal, Sonawar, Zadibal in Srinagar District and Shopian District where NC is hesitant to field their candidates against PDP which is expected to get an edge over failures of NC and congress to tackle issues that have got raked up due to flood devastation.
State congress legislators who spend whole day today in Congress Head office here at Srinagar according to sources were informed from Delhi at 6 Pm that final list of candidates will be mailed to them on Wednesday only.
Sources said that besides Salman Soz who is likely to contest from Baramullah District, state congress had send a list of 20 new faces to High command for approval to contest out of which only 10 faces including Salman Soz have been given green signal to contest elections who are from Srinagar, Baramullah, Anantnag, Shopian and Rajouri areas.
Besides three main political parties NC, congress and PDP there still around 4 newly launched political parties in Kashmir which are yet to announce their complete list of candidates including PRP, Gareeb Nawaz parties besides third front of Muhammad yousuf Tarigami as well. Pertinently in the first phase of election due on November 25, polls will be held in 15 Assembly segments spread across seven districts of Bandipora, Ganderbal in Kashmir Valley, Kargil, Leh of Ladakh region, Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban of Jammu region.
