No doubt ATM might have brought efficiency in the banking industry in many respects like, speed and storage but at the same time bank customers still complaint of frequent snags or lack of cash, break downs of ATMs, long queues and all. According to sources that, "The ATM facility is not of much help here in Kupwara, the machines remain out of order for whole day. "General public complained that most machines, especially those located near the district hospital and on the Kowari-Chowkibal road they remained out of service in Kupwara during harsh winters, sources informed. Bashir Ahmad of Awoora Kupwara told early times that the machines in the main market of Kupwara, often show the message "sorry, I am being serviced". He added and said that during emergency situations, they have to visit banks for withdrawal of cash which is a cumbersome process. Other machine near the goal market and Deputy Commissioner's office Kupwara displays "I am temporarily out of service" and "sorry for inconvenience, please contact your bank, Ahmad said. Another caller said that due to poor use and low effectiveness of Automated Teller Machine services leads to problems like congestion inside the banks , spending much time in queues, while as some machines are lack of cash, and other remains out of order, causing discomfort to people. A local resident of Kupwara town Ghulam Mohammad Wani also complaints that services at most ATM are not available round the clock, as some ATMs remain closed after 6 pm. "Where as some ATMs do not dispense cash after 6 pm. What is the point in offering the facility when it is not available round the clock, Wani questioned ? Automated Teller Machine (ATMs) was introduced into the banking system to enhance good services delivery and efficient customer satisfaction but most of the times it seems that these ATMs are wasting time which should not have happened. The authorities should keep them working round-the-clock or wind them up so that the clients do not face inconvenience, he said. A senior Bank official from Kupwara told early times that there are complaints that most machines remained out of service, but the branch is going to replace these ATMS with a new one. However the official maintained that the process of replacing the machines is under way.
