Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 2: Chhani Himmat police have registered an FIR in the alleged IRP recruitment scam and arrested the accused. The FIR is lodged a day after the publishing of the news item in the ET in its edition on January 1 under title ' IRP recruitment scam surfaces in Udhampur' in which it was reported that PSO-cum-cook of then DIG IRP, now retired IGP, has allegedly taken lakhs of rupees from the candidates for managing job for them in the IRP in 2009.
Channi Himmat police lodged FIR against the cop namely Babu Singh on the basis of the complaint that he, allegedly at the behest of a senior police officer, took money from them for managing jobs for them. Here, the accused cop allegedly took Rs 52 lakh from the candidates.
Sources said that during questioning he allegedly informed police that the amount he had collected from the candidates was distributed among the senior cops. The investigation of the scam was in progress and it was alleged that he had illegally collected crores of rupees from the candidates.
Pertinently, the recruitment scam surfaced in district Udhampur when a PSO of the ex-IGP (then DIG IRP) took Rs 88 lakh from 42 persons at the behest of a senior cop to get themselves selected in the force. The recruitment took place in the year 2009 after the formation of the newly carved four districts-Samba, Reasi,Ramban and Kaishtwar.
Cop Babu Singh, PSO of the then DIG IRP Gulzar Singh Salathia, was alleged to have collected Rs 88 lakh from the candidates but after their names did not surface in the selection list, they lodged a complaint with the Udhampur police.
Police held an inquiry in this connection and found that the PSO of the senior police officer, misusing his position had taken graft from the aspirants. The departmental inquiry rport was later submitted to the PHQ for further disposal but till date, the PHQ has remained mum.
