After elections, NC chants autonomy slogan | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 2: After deceiving people of state for decades by hollow slogans like Raishumari and autonomy, the National Conference (NC) no more used autonomy slogan to woo the voters during the recently concluded assembly elections. Now as the elections are over and Govt formation seems to be a difficult task for this party, the NC leaders have once again started beating the autonomy drum. It was on Thursday during a meeting of NC's youth wing activists in Srinagar when Salman Ali Sagar, NC's youth wing leader reiterated that National Conference (NC) will continue its struggle to achieve complete autonomy for Jammu and Kashmir. Salman Sagar who is NC's Provincial President Youth (Kashmir region) said " NC won't allow sacrifices of people to go waste." While chairing a meeting of youth workers from Kashmir region at the party headquarters he said that NC always stood for protecting the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and will remain steadfast till it achieves the goal of so called autonomy . Autonomy has been used as rhetoric by NC for many years right from 1996 when this party won the assembly elections with a thumping majority. The autonomy was an important slogan during those days and it was basically used to counter the azadi slogan of separatists. The NC leaders tried to emotionally blackmail the people of valley with this slogan but when the time came to implement it, the party could not even discuss this matter with the Govt of India inspite of the fact that J&K assembly had adopted a resolution vis a vis restoration of so called pre 1953 position in Jammu & Kashmir. National Conference even constituted a committee under the leadership of Abdul Rahim Rather to look into the autonomy issue and the said committee had prepared an autonomy document as well, but what happened to that document nobody knows? During 2008 Assembly elections also Farooq Abdullah as well as his son Omar Abdullah were continuously raising this slogan in every nook and corner of the state, but when they came to power they could not do anything. During the recent election campaigns NC leaders hardly used autonomy slogan because they knew people are not going to vote for them by falling prey to this emotional slogan. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah addressed many public rallies during elections, but autonomy word was hardly uttered by him nor did his senior party men spoke about it. As NC leaders acknowledge this fact that they are not going to form the Government in J&K, they have once again started raising this hollow slogan and once NC will sit in opposition they will continue to befool people by raising such kind of slogans and Salman Sagar seems to have initiated this hollow slogan campaign for National Conference. |
