BJP yet to pick up alliance partner in JK: Amit Shah | | | Javaid Naikoo
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 2: As impasse over the formation of the next government in Jammu and Kashmir continued for 15th running day today, the Bharatiya Janta Party Chief Amit Shah made the plot more interesting by revealing that BJP is yet to pick up its alliance partner in the state and talks with both the regional parties are on. Talking to reporters in Mumbai Shah said, "BJP has not yet taken any final decision on choosing an alliance partner in Jammu and Kashmir. Talks are on with both the regional political parties, National conference (NC) and People's Democratic Party (PDP). We have not yet decided on tie-up in JK." Pertinently, BJP which emerged as the second largest party in the recently held assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir with 25 seats, first time ever in the political history of Jammu and Kashmir, has emerged as the key player. Another BJP leader and incharge of JK affairs of the party Avinash Rai Khanna told reporters that his party needs some more time to carry forward negotiations with other political parties and added that "BJP wants a stable, strong government in Jammu and Kashmir and for that they need some more time." The fractured verdict has sent the political parties in JK into tizzy and their leaders too seem to be confused about the government formation in JK. Pertinently, the BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav during his recent visits to Kashmir had said that deliberations are on with only one party and formal deliberations with PDP over alliance would start soon. Meanwhile, PDP's chief spokesperson, Naeem Akhter told a news channel in a panel discussion that the fractured mandate in the region has thrown a tough challenge. "Situation certainly is not the same as it was on December 23." He hinted at possibility of breakthrough being achieved soon. Pertinently PDP emerged as the single largest party by securing 28 seats, BJP bagged 25, NC and Congress managed 15 and 12 seats respectively in the 87-member house leaving all the political parties short of magic figure of 44 needed to form the government in the state. Speculations are rife if PDP and BJP fail to form government, Governor's rule may be imposed in the state. |
