Jammu, Jan 2: Yoga might have attained international recognition and fame after United nations agreed to celebrate international day for Yoga, but ironically, back home in Jammu it faces indifference and apathy as the only Advance Yoga Center is non-functional since 2012 owing to non-seriousness of concerned authorities. Sources told Early Times that after many efforts, the Advance Yoga Centre (AYC) was sanctioned by Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) Delhi in 2010, but within two years of establishment, the center came to halt. "The centre was fourth yoga Centre in the country among JIMS, Pondicherry, NIMS, Banglore and Yoga University of Gujarat", the sources said. They further said that the AYC was under the control of Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu and located at Medical Faculty Club Maheshpura. The center has been reportedly closed for the last two years. However, the administration of GMC Jammu claimed that the center is still running. "In 2010, the then Minister of Medical Education, inaugurated the AYC, the center was joint venture of GMC Jammu and MDNIY Delhi which was completed at a cost of 62 lacs," sources maintained. "The center began functioning with morning and evening classes and Some workshops were also conducted in Jammu as well as outside by the committee, constituted for functioning of the center", sources said, adding that Rs 10 lac sanctioned for expansion of the center are not utilized till date. "The MDNIY also had planned to sanction Rs 1 crore more for further expansion, but due to poor planning the amount couldn't be sanctioned," they revealed, adding that owing to lackadaisical approaches of GMC administration, the signed MoU expired in 2012. "Paradoxically, required initiatives to flourishes the center were not taken", the sources maintained. When contacted, the then Programe Director of AYC, Presently Administrator of Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Charitable Hospital, Ambphalla Jammu Dr TR Raina admitted that the center in shambles. "During my tenure the center performed as per expectations, after my transfer the center came to a halt", he added. Principal of GMC, Dr Ghamsyam Dev Gupta couldn't be contacted. |
