Police party attacked, ASI among 4 policemen, 2 civilians killed

Rajouri, Jan 2 : Four policemen including an Assistant Sub Inspector and two civilians were injured when some miscreants pelted stones on the police vehicle while police party went to arrest some persons from Manhas Mohalla locality of Jawahar Nagar.
Reliable sources said that some youth from two communities of Jawahar Nagar and Manhas Mohalla had some tiff over an issue about a week ago. In this connection, counter FIRs were registered at Rajouri police station by both the parties but the police failed to take action.
On Friday, one Bahadur Ali of Manhas Mohalla approached Jawahar Nagar in the evening and informed that his son was stopped at Jawahar Nagar and beaten up by some youth.
Meanwhile, some prominent people of Jawahar Nagar also approached the police seeking action against the youth of Manhas Mohalla apprehending that they could create law and order problem.
At about 7.30 pm police party led by Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Mohan Lal in Tata 407 bearing registration number JK 11 R-6295 was on way to Manhas Mohalla to investigate the matter.
As the party reached near Manhas Mohalla some youth of the area who reportedly had already planned to attack the police party, started pelting stones on the vehicle and damaged the wind screen.
Four policemen including ASI Mohan Lal , driver head constable Harbans Singh, constables Mukesh and Hans Raj were injured in the stone pelting.
Policemen resorted to mild lathi charge and in the clash two youth reportedly Ashu and Pinki were also injured and admitted in the hospital.
Hamid Choudhry, DySP, HQs said that over some dispute some youth of Jawahar Nagar had a scuffle and in this connection a case was registered.
Today again, a clash took place between both the groups and while performing official duty policemen were injured including ASI, he said and added that the situation was under control and police would take action against the miscreants.
